2022 Poetry Chapbook Contest & Elyse Wolf Prize

Slate Roof Press (n/a, Northfield, MA )

Slate Roof Press, a poetry collaborative publishing new voices in poetry since 2004, announces its Annual Poetry Chapbook Contest. The winner receives the 2022 Elyse Wolf Prize of $500 and becomes an active member of the press, including on-the-ground participation in a wide range of press activities. Slate Roof’s award-winning book designer and printer produces beautiful books featuring letterpress covers, die-cuts, local artwork, and unique papers.

Submit 28 pages of poetry between May 1 and June 15. $10 reading fee/sliding scale available.

To maintain a pool of people easily available for in-person tasks at the press, this year's contest focuses on our traditional home territory of western Massachusetts and southern Vermont. Submitters to the contest must reside in one of the following counties: Franklin, Hampshire, Hampden, Worcester, or Berkshire counties in Massachusetts; or Windham County, Vermont.

*Slate Roof members are involved in all aspects of publishing, such as working with local vendors, sending out promotion, managing bookstore accounts, participating in book fairs and presentations, designing promotional materials, providing feedback on other members’ manuscripts, editing/proofreading final copy, book assembly, and book distribution. The chapbooks are designed by the poet; we attend to papers, binding, and typography.*
