ACADEMY OF MUSIC THEATRE AUDITIONS

The Academy of Music Theatre will present “Andy Warhol in Iran” on April 10, 11, and 12, 2026. Open auditions are scheduled for October 14, 2025, with call backs on October 16, 2025, from 7:00-8:30pm for both nights, at the Academy of Music, 274 Main Street, Northampton. 

Rehearsals will be scheduled in March and early April, 2026.

The Academy is seeking two actors: Andy Warhol, an American male in his mid-forties and an internationally famous artist, and Farhad, a Persian male in his early twenties. Sides from the script will be available. Please arrive at 7:00pm on October 14. Actors may perform a monologue if desired. Actors will be asked to read a monologue from the play and will be partnered from the audition pool to read from the play with sides provided.

The play begins in 1976 with less than 3 years before her exile, when the Empress Farah beckons Andy Warhol to begin pop-art portraits of the royals in Tehran. When a fascinating University student takes Warhol hostage in his hotel room (disguised as a room service waiter) to publicize his group’s demands, a life-or-death struggle ensues over revolution, responsibility, and the arts. Based on a true story, "Andy Warhol in Iran" hums with intelligence and humor by award-winning playwright Brent Askari.
