Armadi Tsayn, translated from Armenian to English means “Voice from the Roots.” This contemporary folk outfit from Boston, MA featuring oud player and composer Samuel Sjostedt, bassist Filippo Novi-Goller, and percussionist Alek Surenian has become a prominent force in the Armenian diaspora music community. With elements that are reminiscent of the past, yet focused on moving traditions forward, the ensemble gives a refreshing take on some of these older practices and melds them with influences of jazz and variations of western classical music. They have successfully packed theaters and clubs throughout the U.S. from Boston to LA, and are influenced by notable figures in the genre such as Simon Shaheen, Ara Dinkjian, John Berberian and others.
