ArtWeek Berkshires returns May 16 to 26 with an annual celebration of local creativity — more than 100 hands-on or behind-the-scenes events and open studios across the region, from gallery shows to live performances, poetry readings to painting and more.
ArtWeek is presented by the five Cultural Districts of Berkshire County.

Charlie Harper: Native Birds in Bold Shape
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily
Experience the beauty of birds through the timeless art of Charley Harper at Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary. This exhibition celebrates Berkshire birds and landscapes, showcasing Harper’s bold, modern style amid forests, meadows, and beaver wetlands. On view in our barn addition, the show is open daily during sanctuary open hours. Native Birds in Bold Shape: Charley Harper at Pleasant Valley is part of MABA in the Wild: Mass Audubon’s Art Collection on View Across the State. Discover where art and nature meet in this unique and inspiring exhibit.

Made in the Mill: Eclipse Gallery Group Show

A group show of Eclipse Mill resident artists. Come and enjoy a variety of recent work and a display of books created by this diverse group of artists and writers. The historic Eclipse Mill is a creative community working individually and collectively to contribute to the artistic engagement of the region. Parking on the east side of the building.

River Studio Sculpture Trail
Season opening May 16 — 11 a.m. to 4:p.m.
Sculptor Andrew DeVries gathers 40 up-to-life-sized sculptures on the trail and poems by various artists all set on a half-mile of a15- acre property. Bronze dancers, musicians, jesters and abstract and figurative sculptures line the path in groves and along the meadow’s hedge, following the middle branch of the pristine Westfield River, with benches where walkers can rest. The season begins on May 16, and summer open hours continue Friday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. They also welcome guests on other days with a call ahead, 413-238-7755.

An Ode to Spring: Celebrating Nature’s Renewal
Open Studios at Lapin Contemporary gallery in the Norad Mill

Plants create a living tapestry, birds’ nests cradle eggs, and artists gather drawings, paintings, jewelry, sculptures and floral design to invoke essences of the natural world and rhythms of earth and rebirth, cycles of growth and change.

Come celebrate the Queens of the Blues with local legends Misty Blues and Berkshire Nursing Families, as Misty Blues performs their tribute to blues legend Ruth Brown, Big Mama Thornton, Koko Taylor, and Bessie Smith for the first and maybe only time in 2025. Proceeds will benefit the free programs of Berkshire Nursing Families who serves families across Berkshire County.

Film Screening: The Librarians

In collaboration with Images Cinema, we’re screening The Librarians. This film follows a group of librarians coming together to fight against book banning, standing up for intellectual freedom on the frontlines of democracy amidst growing censorship in Texas, Florida, and beyond. In and Out of This World

Carol Shumans will show paintings created with alcohol ink and oils. Her work is deeply rooted in the natural world and provides an intimate connection to earth, light and memory that for her is both ancient and divine. She will exhibit her work at Greylock WORKS from May 17 to 24t with an opening May 17 and a demonstration on May 18 from 2 to 3 p.m.

Ceramic sculptures and clay in every stage of creation, from raw to finished pieces, find a place in the garden with vibrant paintings of animals and flowers and prints.

Eco Printing with Plants
May 18 — 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Becket Arts Center
Create permanent prints of real flowers on fabric. Steam draws out each plants unique color and shape, which then becomes a permanent print on the fabric. Each student will receive one silk scarf and all materials necessary for the eco-printing process. We will cover the natural dye basics (how to prepare your fibers); an eco-printing demonstration; a simple modification technique and care.
Wax and Water: Gail Gelburd
May 18 — noon to 4 p.m.
Gail Gelburd’s studio is in a 1740 watermill. It straddles the river and looks out upon the waterfalls and trees. Her art is about the connections between nature and humanity. She begins with photographs, many taken from her porch, which are then layered with collage or painted upon with encaustics. Some are printed on fabric and molded into relief and life size sculptures. Stroll the grounds in Otis, pass the sculptures, see how the images are transformed to connect our physical being with the environment.

Art Now and Entanglement Exhibits
Open Studios at Mixed Media Space, North Adams, noon to 5 p.m.
Art Now in North Adams, and Entanglement (for loom) will open on May 17th, at Mixed Media Space, a new 2000 sqft contemporary art exhibition venue in North Adams. First of its kind, Art Now in North Adams is a grass roots curatorial project curated and produced by Anna Salmeron, artist and curator who runs Future Labs Gallery in North Adams, and Sanja Stojakovic, NYC based producer and director of Mixed Media Space. Entanglement (for loom) is an interactive sound installation by New York City-based Andy le Max.

Defy: Words in Bloom
An Evening of New Work by Women Writers
May 21 — 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Every act of creation is an act of defiance. A willful insistence to coax ideas into fruition. A rebellious perseverance to tend intimate feelings, to cultivate desire despite an overgrowth of barriers. From this idea germinatesDefy: Words in Bloom- an evening of new work by local women writers. Listeners are invited to experience poetry and creative nonfiction performed by the authors: Deirdre McKenna, maayan nuri héd, Nichole Dupont, Alÿcia Bacon, and Elizabeth Nelson. Paper flower sculptures crafted by Nelson, a visual artist and budding floriographer, will also be on view. This event is produced as part of ArtWeek Berkshires, an annual celebration of creativity.

Hatchlings North Adams

An experiential public art installation brings nine illuminated pavilions downtown, at the parquet on Eagle Street, around the town center and on the MCLA campus. They are open to the public both day and night, and illuminated from dusk until 11 pm each evening. On Saturday, May 24, the artist and her team will come to town for an event from 8:30 to 10 p.m.
