Learn more about the Berkshires Satellite Reef by joining us for an artist talk with Christine Wertheim, co-curator of the Crochet Coral Reef project. Join artist, writer, and poet Christine Wertheim at the ‘62 Center for Theater and Dance for an engaging talk on the Berkshire Satellite Reef, part of the worldwide Crochet Coral Reef project she co-founded with Margaret Wertheim. In this presentation, Wertheim will trace the origins of the Reef as a global, community-driven artwork that uses crochet to envision marine ecologies, climate change, and collective care. She will discuss how the Berkshire iteration brings together local makers, environmental concerns, and feminist craft traditions, highlighting the ways participatory art can both honor scientific knowledge and celebrate creative collaboration. Through stories, images, and reflections, Wertheim invites audiences to consider how acts of making can foster connection, awareness, and an imaginative response to our changing planet.
