Beyond the Beaten Path: The GPL Summer Reading Program

Date/Time

Location

Greenfield Public Library (402 Main St, Greenfield, MA 01301, Greenfield MA)

Beginning Tuesday, July 5, adults, teens, and children are invited to participate in the Greenfield Public Library’s Summer Reading Program. This year’s theme is Beyond the Beaten Path, and many fun and exciting programs are planned!
Adults:
For adults, we are going on outdoor adventures this year. No need to register, this is a spur of the moment wilderness adventure. There is a book for each week, and two alternates if you so choose. You will check out the book for one week, with a one-week automatic renewal, and follow the adventure. Join your neighbors as we walk to Maine, hunt out a murderer in the deep woods, adventure to the Antarctic, take walks in England and on the Pacific Coast. There will also be a virtual Escape Room to explore throughout the program.
The adventure will wrap up on Thursday, August 18, with a book discussion on Court Square. Join the GPL staff and other armchair travelers to discuss the books you read and what your adventures were. Did you have a good time, or did you find yourself lost in a forest?
Teens:
Register for the teen summer reading program and receive a lanyard and mini converse high top. For every genre you check out, earn a mini pin for your lanyard, AND earn a free ice cream cone from Ice Cream Alley for every 10 hours you read! As an added bonus, play along on our summer reading bingo card to win t-shirts and gift certificates. Sign up at the main circulation desk, on our website or at the Beanstack mobile app. Don’t forget to stop by the library on or after July 5th to check out your books, pick up your summer reading lanyard and gift bag, and get started on a fun summer of reading!
In addition, join Teen Librarian Francesca on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for more summer fun including a Stranger Things Party, button making, a weekly Game Lab, and more!
Children:
The children’s Summer Reading program also starts on July 5! Every child registered in the program has the chance to win weekly prize drawings; by simply reading your child can earn up to two coupons for free ice cream. Sign your child up in the Children’s Room with a staff member, through our website or the Beanstack mobile app.
In addition, Children's Librarian Ellen has many outdoor programs to add to the fun, including arts and craft events, and a special story time with local author and illustrator Astrid Scheckel. To wrap the summer up, families with children of all ages are invited to Campfire Songs with Julie Stepanek on Friday, August 12.
