BIFF presents Four Winters: A Story of Jewish Partisan Resistance & Bravery During WWII, a film screening and talkback with Jewish partisan Michael Stoll and director Julia Mintz.

From deep within the forests of WWII’s Belarus and Eastern Europe, more than 25,000 Jewish partisans fought back against the Nazis and their collaborators. Despite extraordinary odds, these determined men and women, many barely in their teens, engaged in life-saving missions and treacherous acts of sabotage; blowing up trains, burning electric stations, and attacking armed enemy headquarters.

Shattering the myth of Jewish passivity, the last surviving partisans tell their stories of resistance in Four Winters, revealing a strong narrative of heroism and resilience.

The film is the winner of Steven Spielberg’s Jewish Story Partners Grant and “Best Documentary” at the Toronto Jewish Film Festival 2022.

Following the screening, the film’s director, Julia Mintz will speak with Partisan Michael Stoll, whose story appears in the film.

“A must-see Holocaust movie … Four Winters is a documentary with suspense, humor, and zero sentimentality … It is surprising, moving, horrifying … and sometimes shockingly funny.” – Marjorie Ingall, Tablet Magazine
