The Bookstore’s founder, Matt Tannenbaum, says:

When Simon’s Rock College announced last fall they were closing down the campus and moving everything to Bard over in New York State, I felt a terrible impending loss in the Berkshire literary community.

Even though it’s way down in Great Barrington, and most of the students never had much in the way of transportation to get them up here to Lenox, still I was always gratified when they entered the shop. They had found us!

I remember a few very well, the ones who stood out, the ones most engaged with what they found on our shelves.

And their teachers! They were the ones who must have had all the fun with these kids. Seriously! I don’t know, I’ve never been a teacher, but I have sat in on a number of events on the Great Barrington campus, and I’ve always been impressed by the rapport between teacher and student, between student and teacher.

So I wanted to celebrate the school, celebrate what its presence has given me as a bookseller, so I asked if we could have some of the teachers who have written books to come up here to Lenox and read from some of their work.

It’s graduation week these days, the last one forever, so I’m not sure how many we’ll get, but I know at least a half dozen who’ve said they want to come by. And I hope as many of you can come too, and help us celebrate their work, on the page as well as on the campus.

Simon’s Rock authors and writers, this coming Sunday, May 18, starting at 3 pm and ending who knows when. Come and celebrate!
