The program, free and open to the public, is part of a continuing series marking the centennial of the Coolidge presidency. It comes as the presidential library and museum marks its 70 th anniversary, dedicated in September 1956 by Mrs. Coolidge and her son John Coolidge.

Diana B. Carlin, co-founder and current president of the First Ladies Association for Research and Education (FLARE), is co-author with Anita B. McBride and Nancy Kegan Smith of the groundbreaking 2024 textbook, “U.S. First Ladies: Making History and Leaving Legacies,” and “Remember the First Ladies: The Legacies of America’s History-Making Women.” Carlin is professor emerita of communication at Saint Louis University and a retired professor of communication studies at the University of Kansas. Her research and teaching interests are in political communication with an emphasis on first ladies, presidential rhetoric and campaigns, political debates, and women in politics. She has taught courses on first ladies at three universities over the past 30 years. For the past four years she has taught a virtual course on first ladies for American University’s Women and Politics Institute. She regularly teaches Osher Lifelong Learning courses on first ladies for the University of Kansas and Northwestern University. She is the author or co-author of book chapters on Martha Washington, Julia Grant, Lady Bird Johnson, Barbara Bush, Hillary Clinton, and Michelle Obama. She is currently working on a biography of Betty Ford with Myra Gutin. She authored articles for the White House History Quarterly on Sesame Street and first ladies and on the generals’ wives (Martha Washington, Julia Grant, and Mamie Eisenhower).
