“Enter This Wild Wood”: Film Premiere & Panel Discussion

Date/Time

Location

Wright Hall, Smith College (5 Chapin Drive, Northampton, MA 01063, Northampton MA)

Would you like to venture into the woods with **old-growth forest evangelist Bob Leverett**? Would you like to better understand the role our local forests play in the carbon cycle and in mitigating climate change?

Join us for the premiere screening of ***Enter This Wild Wood****,* the newly released film by Bob and his wife Monica, on **Wednesday, November 18, 7:00-8:30 PM** at the Weinstein Auditorium in Wright Hall at Smith College. This documentary shares how, in the company of distinguished scientists, Bob helped identify long overlooked old-growth forests in Massachusetts.

With his engineering skills, Bob, with colleagues, continues to develop more accurate field methods for measuring the dimensions of trees, leading to improved estimates of tree carbon. Recent research studies suggest that the largest trees provide critical benefits that smaller trees don’t, including stabilizing the surrounding ecosystem and storing large amounts of carbon.

In the film, you will get a glimpse of how Bob cultivates intimate, personal relationships with individual trees and the exceptional woodlands in our area.

The 30-minute documentary will be **followed by a panel discussion** **with**:

**Colin Hodgson**, film Director

**Monica and Bob Leverett**, film Co-Producers

**Jared Lockwood**, Ecologist

**David Foster**, Director Emeritus, Harvard Forest

**William R. Moomaw**, Professor Emeritus, Tufts University

**Shelby Perry**, Wildlands Ecology Director, Northeast Wilderness Trust

This is event is offered in collaboration with the Smith College Center for the Environment, Ecological Design and Sustainability (CEEDS) and Northeast Wilderness Trust.

**Free and open to the public!** No registration required.
