The movie tells the story of Velvet Brown (Elizabeth Taylor) who wins a horse and trains him, with the help of a former jockey (Mickey Rooney), to compete in England’s Grand National horse race. The movie made its grand premiere in New York City on December 14, 1944 and went into general release in January 26, 1945, where it was well received by critics and the general public. The movie made its first showing in Greenfield at the Garden Theatre on Wednesday April 25, 1945 where it played for four days. In addition to receiving great reviews, it was also nominated for five academy awards. Overall, the movie is an excellent film to introduce children and the entire family to classic cinema from the era!
