"Floorscapes: From Mountains to the Sea" - Floor Mats by Joanne Gold

An exhibition of painted floor mats by Joanne Gold, entitled “Floorscapes:  From Mountains to the Sea,” will be featured at the Shelburne Arts Co-op from 9/29 through 10/26.   A reception with the artist will be held on Sunday 10/4 from 2 - 4 pm.  The Co-op is located at 26 Bridge Street in Shelburne Falls, and is open every day from 11 - 5.    413 625-9324.

In the artist’s words, “Floor mat ideas grow out of observations in nature.   I often will play with a photo to get at the essence of the subject.   I love the process of preparing the canvas, painting layers of color, adding fabric collage, and repeating border designs.   My mats invite the viewer/user to suspect realism and let playfulness take over.   Many of the mats feature a center window design allowing the images to pop.  I’m looking to create a mood, be in contemplative or bold.  Floor mats are the ultimate marriage of function and beauty.”
