Four Artists, Four Showrooms
Anchor House of Artists (518 Pleasant Street ground floor, Northampton, MA 01060)
Four Artists fill four showrooms at this expansive venue. In Gallery One, Robert Markey, a painter & social activist, has organized community events up and down the valley that build on the fabric of the neighborhoods where they occur. In this exhibit, aptly titled for our times, Markey fills Gallery One with images that seek to inspire peace, an almost hopeless task but one that is admirable all the same. He is joined in Gallery Two by Beth Bazio, a hilltown resident presenting intricate, lace-like paintings that embed mysterious images. In Gallery Three, hairdresser Emerald Glenn brilliantly colored, self-taught paintings. Also in the Foyer Gallery, photographer, Gregory Thorp outs seven very involved assemblages constructed of detritus often overlooked in the same manner as his spirit of photography brings forward the obscure into sight.
