Greening Greenfield invites you to the film “Most Likely to Succeed” at LAVA April 9th 6:00 pm (doors open at 5:30). This film is a “thought provoking feature film that reveals the growing shortcomings of conventional education methods in today’s innovative world. The film explores compelling new approaches that aim to revolutionize education as we know it, inspiring school communities to reimagine what school could be. It raises interesting points as it urges Americans to talk about reinventing its education system to meet the demands of the 21st century economy.

Our current system—separate grades, separate subjects, memorization—was first designed over a century ago to meet the needs of the Industrial Revolution as a “factory model” of education.. If students can read, write, do basic math and learn about the Louisiana Purchase, they might be ready for a lifetime job on the assembly line. But those jobs are vanishing in the New Economy and the age of super computers. The skills needed in the economy of today (and tomorrow) are so-called “soft skills”—collaboration, experimentation, reflection, social skills—best learned in more student-centered, project-based learning.

Imagine students looking forward to the next school day, enjoying the challenges and the collaboration! This film shows us that it can happen!

Douglas Selwyn, PhD, educator, will lead the Q&A after the film. Refreshments will be served.
