Marius Sznajderman Selected Works

Collages, prints and paintings by noted artist Marius Sznajderman (1926-2018) will be on exhibit at the Agawam Public Library from August 1st through August 28.

Born in Paris in 1926, Sznajderman had a career spanning eight decades. His works include paintings and drawings, prints, collages, sculptures and illustrations. The works on exhibit have themes that include abstract, landscape, figurative, Judaica and Pre-Colombian art. 

A Jewish escapee from Nazi-occupied France who lived in Venezuela before moving to the United States, Sznajderman’s art was influenced by his rich multi-national history and his Jewish Heritage.

An artist, art teacher and set designer, Sznajderman has been the focus of more than 30 one-person exhibits and contributed to numerous prestigious group shows in South America and the U.S. His creations are in major collections including the Smithsonian Institution and the Library of Congress; the Fine Arts Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Arts in Caracas, Venezuela; the Cincinnati Museum of Art; the National Yiddish Book Center; and New York’s Museum of Modern Art and Museo del Barrio. 

“The rich vocabulary of themes visible in Marius Sznajderman’s work represents the sum of an equally rich accumulation of personal experience which he absorbed In the course of his years of living in France, Venezuela and the United States. Yet a common denominator underlies this diversity of subject—-Sznajderman’s capacity to absorb and appropriate both close personal and second hand experience with similar intensity and present it in coherent form.
