The LAVA Center is presenting a series of new play readings by local playwrights and friends of LAVA.
Actors are invited to perform in an unpaid cold reading of the play in a casual atmosphere- no rehearsals required.
The play in progress, Destination Wedding, employs humor and absurdist elements to explore issues of race, culture and class, mental illness and suicide, family secrets.
Christine Benvenuto is the author of two books of nonfiction published by St. Martin’s Press. Her short stories, essays, articles and reviews have appeared in many newspapers and magazines, and one short story is available online from SheBooks and on Audible. Her play Bridges was part of LAVA’s social justice series this spring, and a version of the play was performed at Theater 80 St. Marks in New York City in June and in venues around Los Angeles in March, as well as appearing in an anthology from Michigan State University this year. Her short plays have been produced for the Boston Theater Marathon and online platforms, and one is forthcoming in an international, multilingual anthology to be published in London.
