Nipmuc Cultural Celebration

Date/Time

Location

Petersham Common (Common Street, Petersham, MA 01366, Petersham MA)

Join our celebration to learn about Nipmuc history, culture, land-use, and living presence in Petersham, through music, crafts, storytelling, and more by Nipmuc citizens. The event will educate our community about the history of the Nipmuc in the region of the Quabbin, uplift Nipmuc Culture, and celebrate that the Nipmuc community has returned to their homeland in Petersham/ Nichewaug. Presentations and demonstrations will include traditional Nipmuc flutes, hide-tanning, woodworking, and more. The event offers a chance to bring Nipmuc and non-Nipmuc people together, to increase cultural understanding, create a deeper sense of place, illuminate our shared history, and support Nipmuc artists and humanists.

This event was made possible by the generous support of the Petersham Cultural Council and the Massachusetts Cultural Council Festivals Grant. The event is organized by Nipmuc Cultural Preservation, Inc., Petersham Anti-Racism Coalition, and Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust. Please contact Jenn at albertine@mountgrace.org with any questions or accessibility requests.
