Oil on Canvas and 'Canvas' in Oil: Finances and Fabrics in the History of Art - Talk by Walter Denny
Date/Time
Location
Pruyne Lecture Hall, Fayerweather Hall, Amherst College (17 Fayerweather Dr, Amherst MA)
Talk is open to the public.
In this illustrated lecture, Walter Denny will address three roles of textiles in the history of art: as generators of the modern artistic economy, as independent artistic media (fine textiles and fashion), and as an omnipresent source of artistic imagery. Using examples from a wide variety of places and periods, artistic media and methods, he will discuss some of the issues arising both from the ubiquity of textiles in the world of art, and from the relative lack of attention paid to them and their significance.
