A Halloween experience of epic—and eerie—proportions! 
As the sun sets at Old Sturbridge Village this October, come see Phantoms by Firelight. Explore the myths and folklore of Halloween at the museum. Evening guests will see the Village in a darker, more eerie light, as the night progresses and a mysterious troupe of traveling performers including gravity-defying acrobats, creepy conjurers, and fate-tempting fire jugglers appear from the shadows of firelight.
This year’s program will feature a wide variety of activities not seen in 2020 or 2021!

A folk belief in some parts of rural New England was that Consumption (Tuberculosis) was somehow spread by evil spirits living in dead bodies. Stop by the Fitch House to learn about the herbs and other remedies that some early 19th-century New Englanders used to treat the inflicted.

Stop by the Cabinetmaking Shop to see how coffins were made and then visit an early 19th-century wake* at the Freeman Farmhouse.

Choose your own clue-hunting adventure! Either complete a picture by visiting designated buildings around the Village Common or put on your thinking cap to answer spooky riddles. After finishing the puzzle, receive a bag of sweet treats in this adapted Trick-or-Treat Experience.

Hear the hypnotic hymns and mystical melodies of Tasha the Temptress, catch an acrobatic performance on the Common, and hear spooky tunes on accordion or fiddle.
