Outdoor film — Night of the Hunter

Date/Time

Location

Clark Art Institute (225 South Street, Williamstown, MA 01267, Williamstown MA)

The Clark will screen the classic film Night of the Hunter, the story of Robert Mitchum’s false prophet, the Reverend Charles Harry Powell — as Powell’s lust for gold leads him to little Pearl Harper (Sally Jane Bruce) and her older brother John (Billy Chapin), who are guardians of their jailed dad’s stolen loot.

“Would you like me to tell you the story of right hand, left hand? The story of good and evil?” Powell asks …

Shot by Orson Welles’ well-known collaborator Stanley Cortez, Charles Laughton’s only film as a director is a haunted and dreamlike American film, The Clark says, “a gothic backwoods fairytale with the Devil at its heels.”

The film screening is outdoors and free.
