With rich vocals, heartfelt interpretations, and captivating improvisation, The Chestina Thrower Quartet brings an evening of soulful jazz to CitySpace’s Blue Room as part of their Pay It Forward residency. Blending original arrangements and timeless standards, the performance honors Black musical traditions while celebrating the vibrancy of live storytelling through sound.
Chestina Thrower is a vibrant and soulful jazz vocalist born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts. Known for a voice that holds deep warmth and resonance, Thrower is quickly gaining recognition in the jazz scene for their distinctive tone and presence. Thrower’s musical journey includes performing alongside legendary saxophonist Charles Neville, and studying with jazz greats Charles Tolliver and Sheila Jordan. They’ve taken the stage at a variety of prominent venues, including the MassMutual Center, the Borough of Manhattan Community College, Holyoke Community College, and the Jazz in July All-Stars Concert at UMass Amherst. A skilled scat singer, Chestina draws inspiration from iconic voices such as Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington, B.B. King, and Esperanza Spalding. Their unique blend of tradition and innovation continues to evolve, offering audiences a deeply personal and resonant musical experience.
Delisio is a producer and beatmaker laying down hard-hitting, rhythm-driven tracks. He’s recently brought his beats to the Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival and Make-It Springfield. Find him on Instagram @delisiomusic.leaks.
