SCDT’s Hatchery Young Artist Program is an experimental movement/music-based performance company for young artists. Hatchery has grown and is now able to offer THREE DISTINCT PROGRAMS FOR AGES 10-18! HATCHERY DANCE COMPANY: A pre-professional performance company for ages 13-18, HATCHLINGS: A pre-professional performance company, working with Hatchery and on their own, ages 10-12, HATCHERY PIT BAND & Production Team: A pre-professional group working with music/video design, production and creation. Hatchery is more than a company, it’s a family and a safe, dynamic environment where teens experience what it’s like to be part of an inclusive performing arts community. Hatchery supports young artists at a range of levels, where creativity, curiosity and enthusiasm is central, and company members become articulate, dynamic and skilled performers and directors. Hatchery’s training program aims to cultivate personal artistic growth, while striving for excellence in the arts. Under the direction of Jennifer Polins and Kate Martel, and Tyler Gorman, Hatchery members receive mentorship from experts in the field to create dynamic, inspiring performances for the Pioneer Valley and beyond. Hatchery performs biannually, has shared work at Jacob’s Pillow, and partners with several local organizations including the Young at Heart Chorus, Bombyx, MAPS (Northampton, MA ), WOFA ( Pvpa ), One Earth Dance/Drum Co (Amherst, MA), First Generation (Holyoke, MA), and Portland Youth Dance(Portland, ME).
THE SCHOOL FOR CONTEMPORARY DANCE & THOUGHT (SCDT) is a performance, research, and education platform for artists of all ages to engage in experimentation and continued learning through dance. The school maintains virtual and physical spaces to connect local, regional, and international artists through programming that emphasizes multiplicity, curiosity, and personal choice.
