MURAL TRAINING COURSES SCHOLARSHIP

Type: Grants

Common Wealth Murals, with funding provided in part by the New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) with support from the Barr Foundation, is offering scholarships for two professional development courses: Muralists Toolkit: Mural Project Planning from Vision to Execution and Designing Murals with Procreate and Photoshop. These scholarships aim to expand access to training in mural design and public art practices across New England.

Applicants must live full-time in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, or Vermont. Scholarships will be awarded based on the applicant’s clarity of learning goals, commitment to community-engaged mural making, and contribution to building a more just, equitable, and inclusive public art landscape in the region. Because past financial support opportunities have only been available to Massachusetts artists, priority will be given to artists in the other five New England states, though all are encouraged to apply.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Clarity on desired learnings and how the artist plans to apply the learning to their public art practice.
  • Experience in community-engaged artmaking.
  • Contribution to more just, equitable and inclusive public artmaking in the region. Common Wealth Murals and NEFA value diverse cultural and artistic expressions as essential to more equitable and vibrant public spaces and recognize that some artists may experience barriers to accessing professional development opportunities due to race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, class, age, and geography. The Scholarship Fund intends to prioritize equity in the scholarship selection.
