M Rudder

Artist / Creative (Individual)

As an artist, M Rudder explores and affirms the multitudes we contain through the lens of the natural world, identity, the sacred and belonging. M's work is most often illustration-based these days, though slowly moving towards the public art realm as time and space allow. M is slowly building a line of branded merchandise as well. And recently curated their first exhibit at the Northampton Center for the Arts - We Contain Multitudes.

As a creative entrepreneur & catalyst M creates ventures that build economic stability and belonging for a vibrant community of creatives who are often under-represented in the art world. This takes the form of pop-up markets and peer learning opportunities among makers.

As one who engages spiritual ministry, M provides deep listening and space for reflection and self-wisdom, co-creates ritual and leads ceremony for individuals and groups seeking to root in the natural world through Full Circle Animism. M centers the exploration and reclamation of interconnection and belonging without appropriation of other traditions and pathways.

M began a creative life drawing hippos and comics, and then created as a muralist and in contributing to theatrical set designs, having painted over a dozen public murals, and having contributed to over 30 theatrical performances. M moved from large-scale public work to textile-based installation and performance work during M's time in Baltimore, MD where M studied, worked, and lived for nine years. Here M also worked within the fine art conservation field restoring historic gilded frames, and as a studio assistant to a public sculpture and installation artist and two fibers and textiles artists, all of whom have exhibited internationally. M then moved into a sketchbook when M packed up and headed to Los Angeles for three years, spending free time drawing and hiking in the natural beauty of southern and central CA. These days M's work ranges between representational and abstraction and takes the form of poetry, children’s books, drawings and paintings, objects, and installations.
