Alberto Tovar is a musician, composer, and improviser working in experimental music, free improvisation, and interdisciplinary performance. He plays double bass, electric bass, and musical saw, and incorporates voice, found objects, electronics, and other instruments into his work.
His practice moves between composition and improvisation, with a focus on listening, responsiveness, and exploring the sonic possibilities of instruments, objects, spaces, and performers. He has worked across experimental music, dance, and theater, collaborating with musicians and artists in Mexico City and internationally.
Originally from Mexico and now based in western Massachusetts, Tovar is developing new collaborations in the U.S. while continuing his artistic work across borders. His recent projects include ensemble compositions and improvisations, live performance, interdisciplinary collaborations, and an upcoming album recorded in Mexico City in 2026.
