Centered Vessel - Functional Artisan Pottery by Maxine Oland

Artist / Creative (Individual)

I make functional artisan pottery in my home studio in Amherst, MA.

Pottery is a labor of love for me. In other parts of my life I am an archaeologist, a gardener, and a student of yoga. Along with pottery, these passions ground me to the earth, center me within myself, and connect me to a deep human history of craft production. It is only when I am centered and grounded that I am my best as a partner, a mother, and a teacher.

I work in stoneware, which is solid and strong. I throw with white clay, fired to more than 2000° F. I use a variety of glazes, but am interested in using glaze to accentuate form. All glazes are food-safe, lead-free, and can be put in the microwave and dishwasher, unless otherwise indicated.

I love to see my pottery functioning in the world! It is meant to be used, and loved, as I have loved making it.

I sell my work mainly on Etsy, but welcome collaborations with local stores and galleries. You can currently find my work at:
