Joe Manning

Artist / Creative (Individual)

I am an author, historian, poet, songwriter, and photographer. I am the creator of the Lewis Hine Project, an effort to track down and interview descendants of child laborers photographed in the early 1900s by Lewis Hine. My project has been featured on CBS Evening News, National Public Radio's All Things Considered, and in Yankee Magazine. I have been successful for over 300 children, interviewed many descendants, and even obtained family photos of the children as adults. I make frequent presentations, with slides, all over New England. I am also doing the same kind of research for some of the Farm Security Administration photos of the Depression era.
